Read MoreAfter initial training as a violin maker in Cremona, Kaspar Pankow learned bow making in the West Dean workshops (Sussex, England) from 2006 to the present, under the guidance of Tim Baker and Derek Wilson. He has also attended all the Oberlin bow making workshops (Ohio, USA) since 2011 where he has worked alongside some of the best contemporary makers.

I made my first acoustic instrument under the instruction of Norman Reed in Totnes Devon in 1995, himself a maker of viol family instruments, and it was there that I became interested in double bass. In my final year at Newark violin school in 2011 I decided I would like to specialise in making double bass. That year I returned home to Caithness to establish my workshop.

Roger studied Fine Art under Patrick Reyntiens and Cecil Collins at the Central School of Art in London. He was inspired by their teaching which stressed the importance of craftsmanship in art and art in craftsmanship and this principle can be traced throughout his work. He has been based in the market town of Leyburn for over twenty five years.

She also specialises in arching corrections, working with plaster casts. All major and minor work is undertaken in her workshop, including sound adjustments and maintenance of stringed, bowed instruments.
