Retouching Course
Iris Carr is a violin restorer specialising in major restorations of violins, violas and cellos.
Her Retouching Course covers all aspects of restoration, from completed woodwork to finishing the varnish, including the treatment and staining of wood, filling cracks and joints, creating texture, retouching and patina.
Participants will bring their own projects with them and Iris will be demonstrating her methods on their instruments.

Arrival from 5.00pm - Sunday 16 th March 2025
(Note: teaching starts 9.00am on Monday 17 th March)
End 4.00pm - Friday 21 st March 2025

Cost:
£1150 for single ensuite
£1100 for single non ensuite
There are a very limited number of rooms so your first choice may not be possible. The accommodation will be spread between the college and a farmhouse 5 minutes walk from the college.
All meals included in the cost, some of the evening meals will be in pubs within 20 minutes drive from Westhope. You will be able to give any food preferences/dietary requirements nearer the time if you are successful.

To book the course, which will open at 8pm BST on Thursday Sept 19th, click HERE. Not all places will be allocated straight away so please add yourself to the waiting list if your place isn’t allocated immediately.
There is a £100 deposit with the remaining balance being payable by the end of December 2024.
What to bring:
Your own restoration projects, however big! Tools, varnishes, retouching pigments, brushes.
All benches, chairs and lights are provided but if you have a favourite chair please feel free to bring it. There will be more information nearer the time to let you know what tools will be available.
