BVMA Violin and Bow Making Workshop

  • Westhope College Craven Arms Shropshire (map)

Violin and bow making Course

The BVMA are delighted to offer this course to makers who will work on their own instruments or bows but are also happy to give some of their time to help with joint instruments which will be sold to help raise money to subsidise other short courses and provide bursaries to young members.

Mark Robinson and Kai Thomas-Roth will be overseeing the joint instrument making.

Derek Wilson and Tim Baker will be overseeing the joint bow making.

16 places available - priority given to some who have worked hard to generate funds in the past.

Cost

£750 for single non en-suite

£650 for shared non en-suite

£250 for those staying in their own accommodation

There are a very limited number of rooms so your first choice may not be possible. The accommodation will be spread between the college and a farmhouse 5 minutes walk from the college.

All meals are included in the cost, some of the evening meals will be in pubs within 20 minutes drive from Westhope and others will be at the farmhouse prepared by groups of participants. You will be able to give any food preferences/dietary requirements nearer the time if you are successful.

What to bring

All benches, chairs and lights are provided but if you have a favourite chair please feel free to bring it. You will also need all your tools - there will be more information nearer the time to let you know what tools will be available.

How to book

An e-mail will be sent out to members on Monday September 30th and you’ll be able to book your place Wednesday October 2, 2025. Not all places will be allocated straight away so please add yourself to the waiting list if your place isn’t allocated immediately.

There is a £100 deposit with the remaining balance being payable by the end of December 2024.

We anticipate this course will be quite popular so don’t worry if you aren’t successful this time, there will be a similar course at Halsway in October 2025.
