I first started working on Musical instruments at the age of about 14 in my local String Instrument Shop (Thwaites Fine Stringed Instruments). I learnt quickly and gained interest in all aspects of repairing violin family instruments, particularly double basses. When I left school I went to study at Merton College for 3 years after which I returned to Thwaites full time for a year. In my interest to learn more about basses I was lucky enough to get in touch with World renowned bass luthier Roger E. Dawson and undertook a 7 year apprenticeship. During this time I learnt an enormous amount about making double basses along with increasing my knowledge of repair techniques. After nearly a decade with Roger, I set off to set up my own workshop. First in Altrincham, now currently in Burnley. I have had the privilege to make and repair basses for renowned session and jazz players from all over the world and have worked with major orchestras in the UK and overseas.
