BVMA Varnishing Course

Running concurrently with the General Making Workshop, this course is aimed at those who already have good violin making skills and would like to be able learn or improve upon their knowledge of grounds, varnishing skills and technique. A very successful method of varnishing and antiquing will be taught by Antoine Nédléc, Executive Director of the Chicago School of Violin Making, and Jeff Phillips, Associate Director of the same school. Both Antoine and Jeff have taught at Oberlin for many years and uncounted competition winners, including of course both of them, use the varnish method they teach.

Start 5.00pm - Sunday 12 th October 2025

End 3.30pm – Friday 24th October 2025

Maximum 10 places.

9 days teaching in total with the weekend for leisure or your own work. Teaching days Monday 13 th to Friday 17 th October and Monday 20 th to Thursday 23 rd October. Friday 24th is a finishing off/clearing up day.

Cost: All options include all meals

There is a £100 deposit payable at booking with the remaining balance being payable by

30/6/25.

Bursaries are NOT available for this course.

The BVMA reserves the right to give a full refund if it is not possible for you to be accommodated on this course. A full refund less £100 administration charge will be available up to 3 months before the course or less if we can fill the place. Please take out insurance for any other loss relating to travel etc. should you wish to do so.
