Course description (short version): This set-up course at Halsway is aimed at violin makers at the beginning of their career. During our week in Halsway we will focus on the set-up of a violin, especially the sound-post and bridge, which are the most important aspects.
Our aim is to give an overview of all the important aspects of a professional set-up which will help make the violin sound as good as it can without compromising comfort for the player.
Andrew Fairfax and Kathrin Hügel will talk you through every single step before putting the theory into practice. At the end of the week, you will leave with a step-by-step guide on how to do a bridge and sound-post.
There is space for 10 participants on this course. In order to sign up, you need to have at least completed your second year at a violin making college by the time of the course or have a similar level of experience. Everyone will bring their own violin to work on, together with their own tools. Bridges, sound-posts and other accessories will be kindly sponsored by The Soundpost.
The course fee is £550-£600 depending on choice of room, which includes teaching, accommodation and food. Bursaries are available.
