Maker of Violins, Violas and Celli – modern & baroque
Hans Pluhar developed a love for the violin at an early age. He has been playing the violin for 30 years and working as a violin maker for nearly 20 years now.
His violin making career started at the Violin Making School of America in Salt Lake City, he continued it as an apprentice in Austria and worked as a restorer and self employed violin maker in London, UK. Furthermore he has built up connections in Istanbul, Turkey and has recently received a trade certificate in Austria.
Pluhar instruments are used in orchestras and chamber groups, by soloists, professional musicians, teachers, students and amateurs. Venues his instruments have been used in by soloists include London´s Wigmore Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, the Musikverein in Vienna, New York´s Carnegie Hall as well as various chamber music festivals around Europe.
Hans has attended many masterclasses both as a player and listener in order to deepen his understanding for music and musicians. Knowing how musicians work and feel has become increasingly important for him to produce instruments that play comfortably, speak easily and project with a strong and characteristic voice.
Contacting players to learn from them is a central focus. He considers himself happy to have met soloists like Gidon Kremer, Pinchas Zukerman, Vadim Repin, Maxim Vengerov and Christian Tetzlaff to have them play his instruments and receive their valued feedback.
Players like Pieter Schoeman, concertmaster London Philharmonic Orchestra, Lukas Hagen, the Hagen Quartet or Erich Höbarth, Quatuor Mosaiques have bought Pluhar violins. Friendships have developed between maker and musicians, following each others careers.
Attending concerts regularly continues to be a huge inspiration for producing new looking and completely hand crafted instruments of highest quality.
Viewings for Pluhar instruments can be arranged in Vienna, Istanbul, London and New York.
